The total deficit on the occupied peninsula and in the Krasnodar region is estimated at least 2,000 MW if foreign equipment cannot be repaired or replaced with russian equipment in time.

This was reported by the russian media holding Kommersant, citing a statement by Vyacheslav Afanasyev, CEO of the Joint Dispatch Control Centre of the Southern Energy System of russia.

As the russian official explained, foreign installations require major repairs, but this is impossible under the sanctions imposed on russia. By 2031, this equipment will have completely exhausted its resource.

"In Crimea and the Krasnodar Territory, a power shortage of 2,000 MW is forecast by 2031 due to the impossibility of overhauling foreign equipment under the sanctions. The situation will be critical in the south-western region of Kuban and on the Crimean peninsula. Problems with electricity supply will also affect the Sochi region, despite the fact that a significant number of energy facilities were built there before the Olympics," Afanasyev said.

‘Energy experts are confident that the situation will become critical by 2031, so it is necessary to build replacement generating capacities of russian production. At the same time, this process is hampered by difficulties in the development and production of domestic high-power turbines,’ the authors of the article add.
