This has been reported by the press office of the International Handball Federation.

This decision was taken after the International Olympic Committee temporarily reinstated the russian Olympic Committee last week. Consequently, russia and Belarus will be able to take part in international handball competitions without any restrictions and using their national symbols: their national anthem and flag.

Handball has become the second team sport in which sanctions against russia and Belarus have been lifted following the IOC’s decision of 7 July 2026. Last week, the International Volleyball Federation took a similar decision.
