Belarusians have been allowed to take part in international university competitions

As for the russians, they too will be able to compete under their national colours, but the conditions for participation will depend on the decisions of the international federations.

"FISU has adopted a unified eligibility system for russian student-athletes. Under this system, the complete exclusion of russian student-athletes solely on the basis of nationality is considered disproportionate and incompatible with FISU’s educational mission. The conditions of neutrality – participation without a national flag, kit, etc. – constitute the maximum restriction applied at any FISU event, regardless of the position of the relevant International Federation.

At the same time, if the relevant International Federation has fully reinstated the membership of russian athletes, FISU adopts the same position. Therefore, depending on the sport and the position of the international federation, russian student-athletes may be entitled to participate in FISU events even with full national symbols,” the organisation’s statement reads.

It should be noted that FISU organises the Summer and Winter Universiades, as well as world championships for students in individual sports.
