Kaja Kallas reported that EU foreign ministers approved the expansion of the sanctions lists to include nearly 1,600 new names on Monday. According to her, the measures are aimed at the russian military-industrial complex.

More than half of them are linked to the ballistic missile production chain, she added.

“This is the largest expansion of our sanctions list since the start of the war by russia,” the diplomat wrote.

“We are making it significantly more difficult, slower and more expensive for russia to produce the weapons it uses to kill Ukrainians,” Kallas stated.

The Office of the President has provided details of the new package of sanctions imposed by the EU.

This was reported on the website of the President of Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.

“The European Union has introduced its largest-ever sanctions package against russian companies producing ballistic missiles, communications equipment, electronics, radio navigation systems, specialised equipment, as well as those involved in mechanical engineering and shipbuilding, and their executives,” the statement reads.

As noted, Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasised that exerting greater pressure on russian entities – particularly those involved in the production of ballistic missiles and "Shahed" drones – is the right and necessary signal if there is a serious commitment to ending the russian war.

The European Union’s sanctions list includes 826 legal entities. Ukraine submitted proposals regarding the majority of them to its European partners. In particular, these include the joint-stock company "Salyut", involved in the manufacture of X-59 missiles and RM-48U ballistic missiles; the "Elekon" factory, which is a key enterprise in the production chain for "Iskander-M" ballistic missiles, X-101 missiles and the control systems for Su-35 and Su-57 fighter jets; the "Zlatoust Machine-Building Plant", which supplies missile casings for high-explosive warheads, manufactures strategic missiles for the russian Navy and is involved in the space industry; "Svetlana-Semiconductors" and "VZPP-Mikron" – among the most important manufacturers of military-grade microelectronics in russia, in particular for missiles, air defence and electronic warfare.

Sanctions have also been imposed on 743 individuals. Among them are the heads of enterprises working for the russian military-industrial complex: Igor Vilnit, CEO of the "Rubin" Design Bureau, one of the key developers of nuclear submarines, including strategic missile-carrying submarines; Mikhail Budnichenko, CEO of "Sevmash", the russian federation’s main shipyard for the construction of nuclear submarines; Dmitry Avtaikin, head of "russian Space Systems", which provides navigation for the occupiers’ missiles, drones and space communications; Igor Yanakevich, CEO of "Aquarius", a major manufacturer of computer hardware and IT solutions that creates computer infrastructure for the occupiers, the security services and defence plants.

The European Union has also imposed sanctions on 77 individuals who took part in the illegal "elections" to the State Duma in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as members of the Central Election Commission of the russian federation.

Sanctions have been imposed, in particular, on Serhiy Arbuzov, the former acting Prime Minister of Ukraine and ex-head of the National Bank of Ukraine, who stood as a candidate for the russian State Duma this year; Oleg Novitsky, a cosmonaut whose political activities are aimed at legitimising the occupation of Ukrainian territories; and Irina Kuksenkova, a russian propagandist.

“Ukraine emphasises that the consistent tightening of sanctions against the russian military-industrial complex is a key component in limiting russia’s ability to continue its aggression against Ukraine. At the same time, it is important to continue restricting access to critical components and technologies and to strengthen monitoring of compliance with the sanctions,” the Office of the President stated in its announcement.
