The Financial Times reports this, citing the research group Kpler.

In the first three months of 2026, imports from the Yamal LNG project in Siberia rose by 17% to 5 million tonnes compared with the same period in 2025.

This resulted in EU countries spending around €2.88 billion on gas from this plant.

Yamal accounts for the vast majority of russian LNG imports to the EU. In the first three months of the year, the bloc received 69 out of 71 shipments from Yamal (97%), with 25 of these arriving in March, following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

During the same period in 2025, the EU accounted for 87% of 68 shipments. The remaining shipments were sent to Asia.

At the same time, the EU does not plan to abandon its plan to completely phase out russian gas by the end of 2027.
