This has been reported by the propaganda outlet TASS.

According to the source, during the meeting, which took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, delegates rejected by a majority vote a proposal by the chess federations of Armenia, Belarus, Cuba and Nicaragua to reinstate the russian Chess Federation.

The newly appointed FIDE President, Timur Turlov, stated that on this matter the organisation must abide by the rulings of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). At the same time, he expressed the hope that the russian Chess Federation would one day have its membership reinstated, provided it fulfilled all the court’s conditions.

In March this year, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ordered the russian Chess Federation to cease its activities in the occupied territories of Ukraine.

As a result of its failure to comply with these conditions, FIDE suspended the russian organisation’s membership for three years.

It is also worth noting that Timur Turlov was recently elected president of FIDE. He is a russian businessman and banker who acquired Kazakhstani citizenship in 2022. He has been subject to sanctions imposed by the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine since 2022, and in 2023 he became president of the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.
