French President Emmanuel Macron made this statement on the social media platform X, according to “European Pravda”.

As Macron reported on 12 October, more than 450 nautical miles south of the island of Réunion, the French navy detained the oil tanker DF Peak that morning, which is suspected of sailing under a false flag and of being involved in the illegal transport of fuel.

“This operation, carried out in accordance with international maritime law, demonstrates our determination to ensure compliance with the law and to combat all forms of illicit trafficking, wherever they may occur,” Macron said.

According to the War&Sanctions portal, which cites the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, the tanker DF Peak was involved in transporting russian crude oil whilst the G7 and EU oil embargoes were in force.

The vessel is affiliated with the sanctioned company Sovcomflot PJSC – russia’s largest state-owned shipping company specialising in servicing and supporting offshore hydrocarbon production, as well as the transport of Russian crude oil, petroleum products and liquefied gas.
