Georgia is stepping up its purchases of russian wheat

According to data from the Georgian National Statistics Service, wheat imports into Georgia totalled $41.8 million in the first half of the year, whereas imports for the same period in 2025 amounted to just $32.3 million. The value of purchases rose by 29.8 per cent year-on-year.

However, purchases of russian maize halved to $4.6 million in monetary terms, whereas a year earlier they had totalled $9.1 million.

Georgia’s annual wheat requirements stand at 700–800 thousand tonnes, with russia firmly holding the top spot in grain imports: it accounts for over 95 per cent of the total.
