Japan has refused to sell aviation fuel to russia

This was stated by Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ryosei Akazawa, according to Reuters.

Last week, Reuters reported that russia was planning to import a consignment of Japanese-sourced aviation fuel via a network of traders following successful Ukrainian strikes on its oil refining infrastructure. 

Ukraine’s long-range strikes, which are depriving russia of its oil and gas ‘war chest’, should ultimately force the enemy to the negotiating table. Military analysts view this as one of the factors that could lead to a ceasefire as early as this autumn.

According to Akazawa, Japan, in coordination with the G7 countries and other international partners, has banned the export of certain goods to russia as part of the sanctions regime, and aviation fuel is also on this list.

The minister declined to comment on specific cases of potential exports, but emphasised that the ban also covers indirect supplies to russia via third countries, including the transhipment of cargo between vessels at sea.

He added that Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is working to prevent the circumvention of sanctions. To this end, the ministry is informing market participants about the restrictions, providing clarifications and warnings, and exchanging information with Japanese and foreign authorities.

“We will continue to strictly monitor exports in cooperation with other countries, taking into account the international situation,” said Akazawa.
