This was reported by Marta Tilhena, head of the sanctions enforcement department of the Financial Intelligence Service (FIS), according to Ukrinform, citing LSM.
According to her, most of these cases are detected at the border and involve attempts to transport goods.
‘About 80% of all customs procedures processed at the Latvian border are cases initiated elsewhere in Europe. And most of them are related to companies registered in other European countries,’ Tilheena said.
Deputy Head of the SFU for Sanctions Paulis Ilenkovs added that few serious violations of sanctions have been detected and that they are being dealt with by the investigating authorities.
He assured that Latvia is working well to comply with sanctions and is helping other European countries.
Commenting on the sanctions against russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, Iljenkovs noted that the impact of these restrictions on Latvia is insignificant: Rosneft has been under sanctions in the country since 2022, and Lukoil's business interests were relatively small compared to other EU countries.
