This was reported by Reuters, according to European Pravda.
The deal involves the sale of Lukoil's subsidiary Lukoil International GmbH, which controls the company's foreign assets.
The agreement with Carlyle Group does not include the sale of assets in Kazakhstan. Lukoil also stated that the agreement is subject to approval by regulatory authorities and that the company is continuing negotiations with other potential buyers. The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
The sale of Lukoil's foreign assets is a necessary step after the russian company was hit with US sanctions in October 2025. It should be noted that these are the first sanctions imposed by Washington during US President Donald Trump's second term.
In December, the US extended the general licence that exempts Lukoil's network of petrol stations abroad from sanctions until the end of April 2026.
Despite the postponement, the sanctions have effectively put an end to Lukoil's international business.
