New Zealand has imposed new sanctions against russia

The relevant statement has been published on the New Zealand government’s website.

According to him, the sanctions are primarily aimed at cybercriminals, as well as those involved in the abduction, forced displacement and ‘re-education’ of Ukrainian children. In total, 33 individuals and legal entities have been subject to the restrictions.

“Children should never be used as weapons of war. New Zealand remains deeply concerned about attempts to abduct and re-educate Ukrainian children through coercive state programmes,” said Peters.

The sanctions list also includes cybercriminals and individuals who facilitate the creation and dissemination of anti-Ukrainian propaganda designed to justify russia’s unlawful aggression against Ukraine.

“Activities carried out from behind a keyboard can have real-world consequences. Cyber actors are increasingly being used to gather intelligence, evade sanctions and hinder the activities of those opposing russia’s aggression. New Zealand, together with its partners, condemns Moscow’s use of these actors,” the official noted.

In addition, the sanctions target individuals who contribute to the development of russia’s military-industrial complex, representatives of the russian political sphere, as well as entities from North Korea and Iran that “provide support for Moscow’s illegal invasion”.

In total, New Zealand has already imposed sanctions on more than 2,000 individuals, legal entities and vessels, as well as a number of trade restrictions. The current package marks the country’s 36th round of sanctions against russia.
