The Swedish Coast Guard detained the sanctioned vessel Jin Hui, suspected of links to the russian "shadow fleet" and of violating maritime law.
The Swedish Coast Guard detained the sanctioned vessel Jin Hui in territorial waters near Trelleborg during a joint operation with police and the National Operations Task Force, as announced by Carl-Oscar Bohlin.
According to authorities, the vessel is suspected of belonging to the russian "shadow fleet" and may have been flying a false flag. It is under sanctions from the EU, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine, and the grounds for intervention also included signs of maritime law violations and the vessel's technical unseaworthiness.
The vessel was towed to a berth for further investigation, with investigators working on board, though no arrests have been made so far.
The incident occurred amid heightened monitoring of russia's "shadow fleet" in the Baltic Sea.
