The Bulgarian Government has approved an exemption from the sanctions against russia

This has been reported by BNR News, citing a government decision, as reported by “European Pravda”.

Consequently, Bulgaria will import iron and steel products from russia in accordance with the current agreement on the Kozloduy nuclear power station, with a view to ensuring its operational safety.

As the government notes, this decision is due to the fact that a significant proportion of the systems and equipment at the nuclear power station are of russian origin.

The Kozloduy Nuclear Power Station is Bulgaria’s only nuclear power station and the country’s largest electricity generator. It accounts for over a third of the country’s annual electricity production.

An exception will also apply to equipment at the unfinished Belene Nuclear Power Plant. Through this decision, the government is authorising the national energy company EAD to launch a public tender and conclude a contract with the Bulgarian branch of the russian company Atomstroyexport in Belene regarding the mothballing of equipment supplied for Units 1 and 2 of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant.
