The relevant decision was published in the Official Journal of the EU.

‘As long as the russian federation's illegal actions continue to violate fundamental norms of international law, including, in particular, the prohibition on the use of force enshrined in Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations or international humanitarian law, it is appropriate to maintain all measures imposed by the European Union,’ the statement said.

It is noted that the decision will take effect on the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion by the russian federation — 24 February 2026.

In addition, the EU recalled the UN General Assembly Resolution of 24 February 2025. The document demands that russia ‘immediately, completely and unconditionally’ withdraw all its troops from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders and cease all military actions, including ‘attacks on the civilian population and civilian objects’.
