This was reported by the Financial Times, citing an internal document from the European Commission.

According to the materials, Brussels is considering introducing a large-scale ban on the operation of all cryptocurrency platforms created in russia. The European Commission believes that the selective inclusion of individual companies in sanctions lists is ineffective, as new structures quickly appear in their place. At the same time, the EU authorities claim that russian crypto platforms are being used to trade in goods used in the war against Ukraine.

The proposed measure provides for a complete ban on any cooperation with russian service providers in the field of crypto assets, as well as on the use of russian-origin platforms for the transfer and exchange of cryptocurrencies. The aim of the move is to strengthen the effectiveness of the sanctions regime.

In October 2025, the European Union introduced its 19th package of sanctions against russia, which for the first time targeted cryptocurrency platforms and digital asset transactions. European authorities are now preparing their 20th package of restrictions against Moscow.
