This is stated in the relevant statement, reports “European Pravda”.

As noted, the 31 new measures involve the imposition of sanctions against vessels in the “shadow fleet” used to transport LNG, the Kremlin’s disinformation networks, and individuals involved in the torture of civilians and the ideological indoctrination of children.

The statement emphasised that these measures are being taken against the backdrop of russia having launched over 3,000 jet-powered drones towards Ukraine in September.

The department noted that following the ‘elections’ in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine earlier this month, the UK decided to take action against individuals and organisations found to have undermined Ukraine’s territorial integrity through human rights violations.

These include eight individuals “involved in arbitrary detentions, torture and ill-treatment of Ukrainian civilians”.

A further seven individuals have been sanctioned for their role in the indoctrination and militarisation of Ukrainian children.

Furthermore, as emphasised in the statement, the russian state is attempting to create a new “shadow fleet” to circumvent sanctions and maintain revenue from gas exports. Consequently, as noted, this package of measures is directed against several vessels acquired to support these efforts, in particular those that were only commissioned in July this year.

The statement also highlighted that russia continues to “wage a disinformation war across the globe”, using a network of anonymous online bot farms and trolls to undermine democratic processes.

Consequently, this package of sanctions also covers seven individuals – including four Georgian nationals – “involved in the dissemination of pro-Kremlin disinformation”.
