Rubio stated that he extends greetings to the russian people on behalf of the United States.

“The United States remains committed to achieving a peaceful resolution to the war between russia and Ukraine. We remain hopeful that a lasting peace will pave the way for a more prosperous future for the russian people and for more constructive relations between our two countries,” the statement reads.

Last year, Rubio also issued greetings to the russian people.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga said at the time that he found it “unpleasant” to read the greetings from “certain countries” on russia Day.
