The White House has approved a draft bill on sanctions against russia

According to Graham, he and Senators Richard Blumenthal and Jean Shaheen had been working with US President Donald Trump’s administration to ensure that the document would be “acceptable to the administration and worded in such a way that they could support it”.

“I am pleased to announce that about 30 minutes ago we reached an agreement with the White House on a version of the bill on sanctions against russia that they will support. This means it will become law,” Graham emphasised.

He noted that upon their return to Washington, he and Blumenthal would approach Republican and Democratic leaders to find out “whether we can find the time to push this package of sanctions against russia through”.

Graham is confident that this “will provide President Donald Trump with the tools to help bring the war to an end”.

In addition, he stressed that he would also hold talks with Trump and with countries that are buying cheap russian oil and circumventing sanctions, in order to persuade them to help bring the war to an end.

It is worth recalling that back in mid-November 2025, Graham stated that Trump had “given the go-ahead” for Congress to pass a long-stalled bill on sanctions against russia.

In January 2026, he also stated that the US President had given the green light to a cross-party bill on sanctions against russia.
