The russian Curling Federation has lost its full membership status

This has been reported by the Fair Play Telegram channel.

As recently as last year, the FCR was a full member of World Curling and held 12 votes. However, as early as 2026, it is listed in World Curling’s documents and minutes as a provisional member without voting rights.

World Curling has not published a separate statement regarding the change in the FCR’s status. This change is evident from the tables showing the distribution of votes amongst national federations.

Consequently, the FCR retains its membership of the organisation but cannot submit or formally support proposals and has no voting rights at the General Assembly. Consequently, the FCR will have no influence on the elections for the President and three members of the World Curling Board, which will take place from 3 to 6 September.

The FCR’s loss of full membership is linked to the suspension of russian athletes from competitions from 2022 onwards. According to clause 6.2.2 of the World Curling Constitution, a national federation must have participated at least twice in the previous four years in a zonal qualifier, a qualifying tournament, an authorised world championship or another specified competition. Failure to comply with this clause results in the national federation’s status being changed from full to provisional.

It should be recalled that in March this year, the All-Ukrainian Curling Federation condemned public statements made by Dmitry Svishchev, President of the russian Curling Federation, regarding pressure being exerted on the international federation to allow russian athletes to return to international competition.
