Kallas stated that EU sanctions have already cost russia $1.5 trillion.

“Brick by brick, we are dismantling the foundations of russia’s war economy,” she said.

According to Kallas, the European Union will continue to ramp up pressure on Moscow, as russia is losing money, lives and momentum in the war against Ukraine.

She also noted that the intensification of russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians indicates an attempt by the Kremlin to compensate for setbacks on other fronts.

The EU sanctions list now already covers thousands of individuals and entities linked to russian aggression.

At an informal meeting of EU defence ministers, the use of a €6.6 billion fund earmarked for military support for Ukraine was also discussed.

Kallas proposed that these funds be directed not only towards compensating member states for weapons already supplied, but also towards joint procurement of new armaments for Ukraine and direct military aid from the European Union.

According to her, Europe must ensure stable support for Kyiv and prevent russia from regaining its military advantage.
