This is stated in a statement by the Gdańsk District Prosecutor's Office, according to European Pravda.

The investigation established that in 2022-2024, a group of entities in Pomerania circumvented EU sanctions against russia and Belarus in connection with the aggression against Ukraine.

Persons acting on behalf of Polish market entities used various circumvention mechanisms, including simulating deliveries allegedly based on previous contracts with russian and Belarusian contractors, submitting false information about the origin of goods, attributing them to Kazakhstan or Turkey, and incorrectly coding wood products in customs documents in order to circumvent sanctions.

On 18 December 2025, three Polish citizens and two russian citizens were detained as part of the investigation. The detainees were taken to the district prosecutor's office in Gdańsk, where the prosecutor brought charges against the suspects.

The next day, the prosecutor filed a motion to apply preventive measures in the form of temporary arrest for a period of three months to all suspects. The court did not grant this motion.

The prosecutor appealed the court's decision to refuse to apply temporary arrest.

The crimes with which the suspects are charged are punishable by imprisonment for a term of 3 to 30 years.

The investigation is ongoing, and charges against other suspects cannot be ruled out, the prosecutor's office added.
