This was announced by Mike Penrose, chairman of the War Victims Fund.
According to an agreement between the British authorities and Russian businessman Roman Abramovich, the fund was to use the money to help "all victims of the war in Ukraine." According to Penrose, this condition was recorded in the documents on the sale of Chelsea, which were approved by the British government.
However, a year later, the British authorities changed the conditions. Now the foundation will be able to receive money if it limits its activities to the "geographical borders of Ukraine".
The Foundation opposed this condition. They believe that the funds should be used to help Ukrainian refugees in different countries, including the UK.
"We are asking the government to allocate funds to us without putting forward political conditions that limit our ability to help all Ukrainians in need," the foundation's chairman said.
Earlier, Abramovich refused to sign an agreement to provide Ukraine with funds from the sale of “Chelsea”, as he wanted part of the money to be directed to "russians who suffered from the war."
