Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticised the US decision on sanctions, which will allow russia to earn around $10 billion

Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement during a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron.

"It is important to continue putting pressure on russia over this war in order to achieve genuine security and lasting peace. We must overcome the blocking of the 20th package of sanctions against russia… All the more so against the backdrop of America’s decision to partially ease sanctions against russian oil currently on tankers at sea.

This single easing of sanctions by America alone could provide russia with around 10 billion dollars for the war. This certainly does not help peace."

Later, Zelenskyy added that the US’s logic is to stabilise the situation on the markets. However, according to him, russia will spend these funds on weapons, primarily on drones striking Ukraine.

‘As we can already see from intelligence reports, these very same drones will be used against Iran’s neighbours, as well as against Europeans and Americans who have a presence at various bases there. Therefore, ultimately, lifting sanctions only to have more drones flying at you later is, in my view, not the right decision,’ he said.
