Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi, founder and partner of Asters, member of the Advisory Board of the Ukrainian Catholic University School of Law, has been appointed Executive Director of the Register of Damages Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
According to Kliuchkovsky, the first meeting of the Conference of the Register of the Damages Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine was held in Strasbourg the day before.
"Since yesterday, the Register has started to exist not only formally, but also in practice. The first statutory bodies of the Register, its temporary budget and the first steps of its work have been approved."
Last week, the government nominated Kliuchkovsky for the position, and yesterday the 45 member states of the Register approved his candidacy by consensus.
According to the Executive Director, the next step is to launch the Register in practice so it can start registering claims and evidence as soon as possible. The ambitious goal is to accomplish this by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, negotiations will continue with the G7, the EU and its member states, and the wider community of states to create a comprehensive compensation mechanism. Klychkovsky noted that an international treaty project is already being prepared.
As a reminder, the agreement on the International Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation was established in May at the Council of Europe summit in Iceland.
