russia is taking control of new European assets

This is according to Reuters.

The decree, published on Thursday, lists assets belonging to the French flooring manufacturer Tarkett, the German packaging manufacturer Menshen, the Swedish packaging manufacturer Sverige International Holdings and the Belgian hygiene products manufacturer Ontex.

It also lists the russian assets of the former European metal container manufacturer "Eviocis", which was acquired by the American packaging group "Sonoco" in December 2024. The decree states that these assets belong to Sonoco’s Dutch subsidiary.

This latest move against European companies came on the eve of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s address at the EU summit on Friday and against a backdrop of reports that the US may attempt to take control of certain russian assets frozen in Europe.

The new decree follows a similar move taken last month against food giant Nestlé and the retail chains Auchan and Metro.
